Velma worked at Safeway and Furr Food grocery stores as a cashier in Amarillo for a number of years. Her hobbies included cooking, gardening, growing beautiful flowers, and embroidery. She took care of her elderly parents at their home and after it became necessary to place them in a nursing home. She took care of her son during his battle with Multiple Myeloma. She also took care of her great grandson in his early years while his mother worked later watching and caring for her great granddaughter. She devoted her life to her husband, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant sister Mary Ann, two brothers Walter Edgar Simons and John Franklin Simons, her husband Roel, and her son Bobby Wayne.
She was a beloved wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother who will always be remembered and greatly missed.
