He died October 9 at Veterans Affairs Hospital following an extended illness. He was a native of George County and had been a resident of the Piketon Community in Scott County for the past 32 years.
Havard was recognized in the Policemen's Hall of Fame in Miami, Fla., for his bravery in the line of duty in 1976 at the Mississippi State Hospital in Whitfield.
Survivors include his wife (now deceased Jewel Havard) of Forest; five sons; 16 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Other survivors include his father, (now deceased John Lewis Havard) of Lucedale; a sister (now deceased Mavis May) of Rocky Creek and a brother (now deceased Randolph Havard) of Bexley.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Nancy Havard in 1936; his brother Jessie Havard and a son, Lonnie Ray Havard in 1996.
Services were conducted by Rev. Larry Havard. Interment was held in the Howard Family Cemetery in Bexley with Ott and Lee Funeral Home in Forest in charge of arrangements.
