Mr. Bassett was born in Houston County to the late Robert Lee Bassett, Sr. and Annie Ruth Hardison Bassett. He retired from Inland Container after 33 years of service, and he was a member of Musella Baptist Church. Mr. Bassett was a proud veteran of the United States Army. On June 19th, Mr. and Mrs. Bassett would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.
He was preceded in death by his son, Robert Bassett III; and siblings, Helen Ruth Bassett, Kenneth Bassett, Jimmy Bassett, Jackie Bassett, and Maurice Bassett.
He is survived by his wife, Helen O. Bassett; siblings, Joe Bassett of Macon, Billy Bassett (Jane) of Musella, Caro Bassett of Tennessee, Shirley Bassett of Tennessee, Minna Bassett of California, and Betty Franklin of Hawkinsville; and many loving nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday at Avondale Baptist Church. Reverend Marty Watson will officiate. Interment will be private.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
