Winnie Mae Eller Green

Funeral for Winnie Mae Green, 87, Lawton will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, 2005 at Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home Chapel, with Gary Bradley officiating.

Ms. Green died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at a local care facility.

Burial will be at Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, Calif.

She was born Dec. 21, 1917, to Jewel and Olive Biffle Eller, in Jester. She grew up on the family farm and graduated high school from the Plainview Community school district in 1935. She attended Sayre Junior College and Oklahoma A and M before graduating from Hill's Business College in Oklahoma City in 1939. She moved to California and was employed as an auditor, stenographer, and court reporter. She married Barney Green on Nov. 2, 1940, in Las Vegas, Nev. He died Aug. 4, 1980. She owned and operated several cafes and a cafeteria in the Los Angeles area. She received her bachelor of arts from Whittier College in 1953 and started teaching in the La Habra school district in 1955. She retired after 29 years, during which time she earned her master's and PhD. She was a member of the Quota Club; Eastern Star Chapter 397 in Bellflower, Calif.; First United Methodist Church of Downey, Calif.; the Center for Creative Living, and a life member of the D.A.R. and the California Teachers Association. She was a Campfire and Girl Scout leader and volunteered with Rainbow Girls and Job's Daughters. She formed several bridge clubs in California and Lawton.


Survivors include a sister, Leona Bradley, Lawton; a brother-in-law, Norman Sneed, Gail, Texas; two nephews and their wives: Bill and Betty Sneed, Abilene, Texas, and Gary and Mary Bradley, Lawton; three nieces: Kay Yeager, Quinlan, Texas, Vonna and husband Jerry Deaton, Lawton, and Saundra and husband Richard Bloom, Coahoma, Texas; 12 great-nieces and -nephews; and many cousins.


She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, a daughter, Bonnie Yvonne Green; three brothers: Vernon, Lloyd and Darrell Gene Eller; and two sisters: Edith Eller and Bonnie Sneed.
