A few years after the death of his father Allen went west, Eau Claire,Wis.. In 1860 he is living with Alfred Hendershott as a farm laborer and has $300 to his name. Also living there in 1860 was a lumberman named O.L. Ingraham. In Eau Claire, Allen engaged in the lumber business where he was a partner in what was known as the Dells Lumber Co..
"Prescott, Burditt and Co. built a mill here(Eau Claire,WI) in 1867-68 and it was rebuilt and enlarged in 1873-74. It cut from 10 to 15 million feet a year. It was organized in 1879 as Dells Lumber Company and operated until 1899, when it cut nine million-feet of lumber."
In 1880 A.Burditt is living in 6th Ward of Eau Claire,WI with his wife Mary and son Allen, working as a lumberman. In 1893 he was Vice President of the Dells Lumber Company, living at 922 3rd Avenue in Eau Claire,WI. His widow Mary was still living there according to the 1900 and 1910 census. Four children were born to them; two sons and two daughters. One son and two daughters died in childhood.
