Louis Claude Albright, Jr. passed away Saturday, June 30, 2012. Claude was born in Birmingham, Alabama on April 21, 1919 and was the Son of Louis Claude Albright, Sr. and Carrie Ethyl Street Albright.
Claude was married to Dorothy Rose Dozier Albright of Tuscaloosa, who preceded him in death, for 69 years. He had two daughters, Dorothy Susanne Furr (husband, Larsen Louis Furr ) of The Villages, Florida and Peggie Lynne Shore (husband Don Edward Shore) of Camas, Washington. Claude had two Grandchildren, Stephen Randolph Furr of San Clemente, California and Virginia Lee Herweh of Ashburn, Virginia and two Great Grandchildren, John Gabriel Herweh and Liberty Faith Herweh, also of Ashburn, Virginia. Claude had three brothers, Norman C. Albright of Decatur, Robert S. Albright of Birmingham, and Ronald G. Albright of Fairfield, all of whom preceded him in death.
Claude attended school in Birmingham and was a graduate of Ensely High School. He was a 1941 Graduate of Birmingham Southern College where he majored in Psychology . He earned a Masters Degree in Psychology from the University of Houston in 1951. He was a member of the Alabama National Guard's last mounted cavalry unit. He had his own horse and loved to show the pictures to his Grandchildren of him riding his army horse in his military uniform that included jodhpur riding pants and tall leather boots.
He was a Retired Reserve Officer, having served during World War II and as an Active Army Reservist for 20 years. Claude was first a psychologist with the Veteran's Administration and later a Personnel Director for various Government agencies, ending his career as the Deputy Director of Personnel with the Federal Power Commission in Washington, D.C.
Claude and Dorothy retired back home to Alabama in 1974 and have been residents of Tuscaloosa since that time. They were long time members of the First United Methodist Church of Northport where Dorothy's parents had also been members for many years. Claude loved gardening and wood working and took great pride in his rose bushes and his garden. He was a lifelong University of Alabama Football fan and followed the Tide's football teams until his death. His pride and joy were his "three little women," his wife Dorothy and two daughters Susanne and Peggie.
