Grandson of a Bishop in South Africa
At Pembroke College Cambridge he studies Mechanical Engineering and joined the University Air Squadron
tranferring to the RAFVR

Called up on the outbreak of war he was made ADC to Air Vice Marshall de Crespigny but voilunteered for Fighter Command was was posted to No 3 Squadron at the start of the Battle of Britain

Sept 26 1940 posted to 501 Squadron at Kenley and 4 days later he made a forced landing in his Hurricane L1657 at Pembury after combat with Bf109's over Maidstone

Oct 7th he was shot down by a Bf109 at Wrotham, he baled out an was found dead at Wilmington. His aircraft cased at Lane End Dareth.

He was 22 and was buried in the small country churchyard at Finghall, Nr Bedale, Horth Yorkshire.
His sister had married the Head Master of Aysgarth Prep School nearby.

A Hero of the Battle of Britain from South Africa, he was known by the nickname ' Nate '
