Hazel Delilah Peterson was born May 12, 1924, on a farm near Morristown, S. D., the daughter of John Lewis and Eldora (Dokken) Peterson. At the age of 4, she and her family moved to her grandfather Jacob Peterson's farm near Bismarck. She was educated at Apple Creek Elementary and Bismarck High School. She worked at Benson Optical before her marriage to Jewel(l) "Babe" Doan on Feb. 21, 1945. They lived and ranched at the Black Leg Ranch at McKenzie.
Hazel brought peace and harmony into her home. She had a kindness that kept everyone together and put others feelings before her own. Her needs were simple because she simply wanted everyone to be happy. It brought her great joy to be with her family and spend time with her grandchildren playing games. Hazel enjoyed dancing and going on walks.
Hazel appreciated the outdoors and helped her husband and family on the ranch. She enjoyed socializing with her friends, and she had many cute sayings, such as "goofy as a pet coon" and "stuffed as a toad."
Hazel was a Cub Scout leader, past president of the Burleigh County Homemakers Council, member of the Bismarck Women's Community Council and past president of the District 5 Cowbelles and treasurer in Logan Township. Hazel also served as North Dakota delegate to the White House Conference on Libraries in Washington, D.C.
Hazel was loved and will be missed.
Hazel is survived by her two sons and their wives, John and Becky Doan, Wichita, Kan., and Jerry and Renae Doan, McKenzie; her grandchildren, Anastasia Adams and her husband, Rodney, Angela Craver and her husband, Shawn, Tiffany Doan and her fiance, Hamza Begovic, Tay Braver and her husband, David, Shanda Morgan and her husband, Don, Jeremy Doan, Jay Doan and his fiance, Alexandria Matthews, and Jayce Doan; her great-grandchildren, Nathaniel and Alexandria Adams, Luke and Elizabeth Craver, Jayden and Kyler Morgan and Skylar and MyKayla Braver; her sister, Lois Laemmle and her husband, Carl, Bismarck; her nephew, Russell Laemmle; and her niece, Carla Gartner.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jewell "Babe" in 2002; and her nephew, Lynn Laemmle.
