A lifelong resident of Laurens County, Mr. Crawford was a WWII veteran, having been wounded in combat while in Italy. He retired as Chief Deputy from the Laurens County Sheriff's Dept. Prior to his law enforcement career, he was a sales representative for Life and Casualty Insurance Company. He was a member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church where he had served in several roles, Including deacon and Sunday School teacher. He was a member of the Brewerton Lodge 183 A.F.M, He will be remembered as a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and brother. In addition to his enduring love of family, his life attested to a love for his church, his fellow man, baseball, quality hunting dogs, and a good story.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Teressa, of the home; one son, Larry H. Crawford and his wife Geri of West Columbia; three daughters, Rachel Dunlap and her husband, Jerry of Piedmont; Carol Cantrell and her husband, Bob of Anderson and Jean Powell and her husband, Larry of Ware Shoals; one brother, James Crawford of Johnston; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Nichols and Wilma Parnell, both of Columbia; 11 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Saturday at Poplar Springs Baptist Church with Rev. Todd Horton and Horace Benjamin officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. Saturday at Poplar Springs Baptist Church. Memorials may be made to Poplar Springs Baptist Church or HospiceCare of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Ave., Greenwood, S.C. 29646.
