Mays Dies in Vietnam

Sgt. Thomas Curtis Mays, 20, son of Mrs. Catherine Mays, 12053 Grand Haven, was killed in Vietnam, his family was notified.
Sgt. Mays was serving with the Combat Infantry, 173rd Airborne Brigade at Doc To in the battle of Hill 875 when he was wounded. His mother was notified of the wound to the main artery in the right side of his neck through a telegram she received Thanksgiving Day. Four days later she was advised that he had died of his wounds. He has been in Vietnam only five months.
His body was returned Friday night and funeral services were held Monday from the Barksdale and Pope Funeral Home to the Leland Baptist Church at 2432 Finley.
Sgt. Mays has been in the service since two weeks after his graduation from the Hamtramck High School in June , 1965. In school, he was a member of the high school chorus. His mother said that he was "wrapped up" in his school activity.
