Eric was born in Auckland Jan 1 1917 and educated at Henderson Valley Primary School and Mt Albert Grammar School.
He worked as an Electrical Apprentice for the Auckland Harbour Board

Aug 1938 he joined the Civil Reserve of Pilots and was called up by the RNZAF and reported to Ground Training School at Werarora
Dec 18 1939 to No1 EFTS Taieri and then to No1 FTS Wigram.

Training complete he sailed on the RMS Rangitane on July 12 for the UK

In Sept was at Sutton Bridge 6 OTU, converted to Hurricanes and joined 1111 Squadron at Drem on the 28th
He flew 14 Operational Sorties and was then posted to 260 Squadron at Skitten in Dec. 1940

Eric went to 41 Squadron at Catterick, Yorkshire in May 1941 and on a training flight on June 1 he crashed into the side of a hill and was badly injurned in the head.
Taken to Catterick Hospital he died the next day.

A New Zealand Hero of the Battle of Britain he was buried in the quite village cemetery in the CoE section.
