WALLA WALLA, Wash. -- Three Walla Walla High School students are dead after a single-car crash. The accident happened early Sunday morning on Mill Creek Road.

The investigation is still in its beginning phase, but police do believe speed played a part in the collision. KEPR was at the scene today, where friends stopped by to mourn.

"This is where it happened," said Meghan Stalder. "I know that the car actually made it all the way, like at least 50 feet out."

Meghan woke up to bring her friend to the airport at 4 a.m. Sunday morning. She walked outside to a gruesome sight: Three of her classmates were in a fatal crash just one hour earlier.

"I was trying to figure it out, like who it was, because, I mean, I don't know, it was pretty sad," said Meghan. "You could tell it wasn't going to be pretty."

15-year old Athena Bentley, 16-year old Uziel Bermoy, and 17-year old Aidan Boede all died on the scene.

It is too early in the investigation to know where the three Wa-Hi students were coming from, or where they were headed.

Spray paint left by investigators shows the car was heading down Mill Creek Road before the driver lost control and ended up in the field across the street, about 50 yards down the road.

"I mean, they had to roll at least, I don't know how many times, but several to get over here," said Meghan.

Right now, police know speed was a factor in the crash. The speed limit changed from 50 to 40 mph on Mill Creek Road.

"The chances of people slowing down to 40, that's pretty small," Meghan said.

While we were at the scene of the accident, friends came by with flowers. Many walked the road, trying to understand what happened to their classmates.

Meghan says school will be tough on Tuesday, but she knows everyone will come together.

"If there's drama, everyone puts it aside and everyone comes together and it's supportive, so I think that's good, that'll help," she said.

Students gathered at the flagpole at Walla Walla High School Sunday night to remember their friends.

Obituary:
Aidan Rilie Boede went to dance with the Angels on May 25, 2014 at the young age of 17.

He was born March 14, 1997 in Pendleton, Oregon to September Boede. Aidan started his life in Athena with his mom and grandma Teresa. He was welcomed with open arms from members of the Athena Christian Church, the Athena Baptist Church and the entire community. There are far too many people to list that have mentored, guided, and influenced Aidan at such a young age. From the minute Aidan started walking and talking, his family knew he would be a great friend to anyone he would meet. He would go camping and fishing with his grandma, mom and aunts all the time and really loved being outside.

Aidan would later move to Walla Walla with his mom and sisters, Sydnie and Gabby. As soon as he was old enough, he would start football and quickly realized how good he was at sports. He tried out and made every team he wanted, spending his summers going to football camps and wrestling camps with the help of many coaches and teachers. He greatly appreciated them and enjoyed going.

Aidan loved his friends and if you ever met him, you would have had the biggest hug ever. He loved being active and being out with his many friends. Aidan loved his family and would always tell everyone about his mom and sisters. He was loved by all and his entire family is so incredibly proud of him.

He is survived by his mother September Boede of Walla Walla; sisters, Sydnie Boede and Gabriellla Abundis of Walla Walla; grandma, Teresa Parker and cousin, Cody of Athena; aunt Kimberly Monroe and uncle Pad Monroe and cousins, Tyson and Hailey of Pendleton, Oregon; aunt, Shannon Boede of Hermiston, Oregon; cousins, Zoie of Athena and KeeAnn of La Grande Oregon; uncle, Jeremy Bergstad of Salem, Oregon, several great aunts, uncles and cousins. Aidan is preceded in death by his great grandpa Jack Boede and great grandparents Clayton and Verna and grandpa Roger.

A memorial service will be held for anyone wanting to attend and share their many wonderful stories about about Aidan at the Athena Christian Church on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11 AM with a gathering afterwards. Memorial contributions may be made to the Aidan Rilie Boede Memorial Fund or the Athena Christian Church through the Herring Funeral Home, 315 W. Alder, Walla Walla, WA.
