Fayette CityMan Dies under fall In Mathies Mine
Oscar Paegert, 60 years old at Fayette City was killed instantly in a fall of slate in the Mathies mine of Pittsburgh Coal Company near Eagie, Thursday. C. E. Patterson, Washington county deputy coroner said several workers were preparing to leave the mine, when a huge piece of slate fell on Paegert. The others escaped injury.

Paegert Funeral
The funeral service for Oscar Paegert, 60, of Fayette City, killed under a fall of slate in the Mathies mine of Pittsburgh Coal Company near New Eagle, in that operation's first fatality, was held this afternoon at the Feyette City Methodist Church in Charge of Rev Gervin Smith, pastor and Rev Louis J. Wallis of Fellsburg Burial was made in Mount Auburn cemetery there.
Mr Paegert who was born at Smithton, January 29 1886 had ben employed at the Cresent mine at California before going to Mathies. He leaves his widow, Sadie; a daughter, Mrs. Wellingtonton Baldwin of Fayette city, and two grandchildren.
Paegert and several fellow workers had finished their day's work and were seated in a man trip car, preparing to leave the underground workings, when they heard the roof cracking. All but Paegert managed to jump to safety. His neck was broken as he straddled the mine car while getting out.
