John A. "Jack" Alexander, Jr., was born May 19, 1932, the third of nine children of John and Myrtle Alexander. He went home to the Lord on Monday, September 23, at age 81.

Jack spent his childhood on the family farms in Sahuarita, Arizona and Paterson, Washington, where he learned the value of hard work, and developed his ability to repair and drive machinery of all sorts. He graduated from Kennewick High School in 1951.

Jack was most comfortable in a well-worn pair of coveralls, and he ran his own repair business, Alex's Tinker Shop. He always carried a pocket knife and a pair of pliers in his coveralls, and he could fix anything from a splinter to a misbehaving tractor with little more than these two tools. He was a licensed private pilot and loved to fly every chance he could.

Jack married Helen Marie Sachse in August of 1957, and often remarked that it was the best decision he'd ever made.

He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Helen, his six children, Ilene Alexander, Deleata (Banks) Adams, LeRae (Bob) Rockne, John (Kari) Alexander, Audrey Alexander, and Jenise (Mike) Connerly, eight grandchildren, and three great-granddaughters. He is also survived by six siblings, Barbara Garrett, Nina Alexander, Judy Campbell, Douglas (Diane) Alexander, Jeffrey (Patty) Alexander, and Laurel Alexander. He was preceded in death by his parents and two older sisters, Edith Leistritz and Beth Allen, and one grandchild.

Jack said many times in recent weeks that he had lived a rich and full life. We invite you to share your favorite memories of Jack's life online at http://www.muellersfuneralhomes.com.

At his request, no formal services will be held. Family and friends will gather for a celebration of Jack's life on Saturday, October 5, 1:00pm at Quinault Baptist Church, 5400 West Canal Drive in Kennewick.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to your local food bank, and if you wish, you may bring donations to the celebration. For a list of suggested items, visit the Tri-Cities Food Bank website ( http://www.tricitiesfoodbank.org/ )
