Show Low, Arizona ~ 05/23/2014
Adela Jaramillo Anaya, 73, resident of St. Johns, died May 19, 2014, in St. Johns. She was born June 24, 1940, in Magdalena, N.M., one of 14 children of Juan and Eduvigis Barreras.
Adela was a homemaker. She spent most of her life in St. Johns being the center of her family and the person that brought them together. She raised many family members in her home and gave everyone a place to go in times of need. She loved crosswords, puzzles and especially reading. She loved to challenge her mind and was known as one of the smartest in the family.
She liked the simple lifestyle and was not one to want more than she needed. She provided her family with everything they needed and loved to cook for them. She made simple food taste like a five-star meal. Everyone will miss her tortillas and coffee because they tasted great, as well as being hot and ready when anyone showed up for a visit.
Adela is survived by her sons: Julian Jaramillo, Joey Jaramillo, Nicky (Lisa) Jaramillo and Ruben Anaya; brother Cruz Barreras; sisters: Marcella Romero, Cecelia Garduno, Christina Aragon, Elesia Peña, Marian (Pat) Barreras and Anita Barreras; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Adela was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Anaya; daughter Aida Leyba; son Tony Jaramillo; her parents; and siblings Pat Barreras, Amadita Padilla, Jose Barreras and Fedelina Garcia.
Her friends called her "family" and her family called her beautiful. "We welcome everyone that knew her throughout her life to attend her memorial."
A funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 23, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in St. Johns. Interment will follow the mass at the St. Johns Westside Cemetery.
Burnham Mortuary of St. Johns handled arrangements.
