From the Kansas Leader News:
The news of the passing of Mrs. Harriet Weaver at her home in Cottonwood Falls, from a heart attack, Saturday morning was received in stunned silence, not only by the members of her family, but by her host of friends.
She had gone about her usual pursuits Friday evening and early Saturday morning had told her son, Dwight, that she was feeling unusually well. Shortly after 8:00 o clock her granddaughter JoAnn, was having breakfast as she worked about the kitchen. She told JoAnn that she suddenly felt ill and after being helped to a chair, JoAnn hastily summoned her brother, DeWayne from upstairs. They called the doctor and their father, meantime trying to administer to their stricken grandmother, but she passed away in their arms before either the doctor or her son arrived.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, February 3, 1953 in the Brown Funeral Home in Cottonwood Falls at 2:00 o'clock with the Rev. Clarence L. Harder officiating. Elmore Stout sang, accompanied by Miss Margaret Simmons. The pall bearers were Ed Boles, W. C. Goad, Asas Pendergraft, Otto Morris, Irving Myers and R. D. Bennett. Interment was made in Prairie Grove cemetery. Falls Chaper, No. 25, O.E.S, conducted graveside services.
Harriet Endley Weaver, daughter of William and Isabella Endley, was born March 23, 1878, at Edgerton, Kans., and passed away at her home in Cottonwood Falls, January 21, 1953 at the age of 74 years 20 months and 8 days.
She was educated in Edgerton and Olater, later moving with her parents to Emporia. While visiting her sister, Mrs. Edith Bafford, she met John Weaver and they were married July 31, 1900, in Emporia, where they lived for a time. Then moving to Chase County, they lived at Cedar Point and Elmdale until coming to Cottonwood Falls in 1929, which has since been her home. To this union were born six children, two daughters and four sons.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Harriet Hazel Starkey, in June, 1940 and her husband in March 1942.
She is survived by her daughter, Audra Frew, Harvey, Ill; four sons, Dwight Weaver of Cottonwood Falls; Paul Weaver of Del Norte, Colorado; Urless Weaver of Fort Worth, Texas; and M/Sgt. William Arthur Weaver of Camp Kileen, Tex; one brother, Herbert Endley of Emporia; two sisters, Mrs. Edna Gilbert of Cottonwood Falls and Mrs. Ola Sonnedecker.
She was not only a member but an active worker in the Methodist church, Eastern Star, Legion Auxiliary, Benevolent Society, Home Needlework Club, and the Double Six HD Unit.
She was devoted to her three grandchildren, DeWayne, JoAnn, and Carolyn Weaver who made their home with her.
Her life was busy and useful and her keen interest in school and civic affairs kept her young in spirit. Her place in the hearts of those who love her will not soon be filled.
