Veteran of Forest Service, Former Sheriff Succumbs
James Davis Agnew, 78, a former Ada county sheriff and veretan forest service employee, died Saturday at his home in Boise.
Mr. Agnew was born Oct. 22, 1870, in Boise and was the son of pioneer residents of Boise who crossed the plains by oscart in '49 and came to this area in the '60s.
His father built the log cabin now preserved in the Pioneer Settlement in Julia Davis park.
Mr. Agnew served as sherif of Ada county in 1903 and again in 1918. He was a charter member of the Sons and Daughters of Idaho Pioneers and a member of St. Michael's Cathedral.
Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Frances Eleanor York, of Boise; a grandson, James Read York, in the Air Force at McChord Field, WA., and two sisters, Mrs. Olive Hodgins of Moscow and Mrs. Ben Giffin, Vancouver, B.C.
