Since he was a young teenager, Edwin worked as a stage mechanic for the vaudeville movie theaters. He was in the occupation for forty years until shortly before his death.

He married Violet Goodfellow in 1906. They later divorced.

Edwin died at the General Hospital in Salt Lake the night of January 23, 1937, from a chronic illness. He was fifty-three years old.
