He was born in Huntington County, Indiana on January 17, 1952, to the late George K. and Mary E. (Tam) Huffman.
He was a graduate of Huntington North High School and Purdue University. After graduation, he joined the Navy and served his country as a Helicopter Pilot. He loved boat racing, golf, hunting and fishing with his friends and family.
James is survived by his wife, Gloria L. (Scott) Huffman, daughter of Vera (Mounsey) Scott and the late William G. Scott; son, Nathan (Robin) Huffman; daughter, Rebecca Boyd; grandchildren, Aiden and Faith Huffman; Emma, Liliana and Gennaro Boyd; siblings, Phillip (Donna) Huffman, Paul Huffman, Christine (John) Wearly and Nannette Huffman.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, James Merritt Huffman II, (Jamie).
The family will receive friends at the Glancy-H. Brown & Son Funeral Home 203 N. Matilda St. Warren on Sunday, May 25, 2014 from 11:30AM to 1:30PM.
Graveside services will follow at the Thompson Home Cemetery at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital.
