Obituary of Darrell Deaton
Funeral service for Darrell (Jabo) Deaton, 75, of Sulphur Bluff, will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 23, 2014 at Sulphur Bluff Baptist Church with Bro. Cecil McLeod and Bro. Robert Newsom officiating. Interment will follow at Sulphur Bluff Cemetery with Roger Edge, Mike Dilloud, David Foster, Keith Ogren, Joe Bob Self, Chris Bassham, Joey Dormen, Terry Goldsmith, Lonnie Taylor, and Jeremy Herman serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Patterson, James Waller, Pete Bassham, Jerry Bassham, Bert Dorner, and Bruce Fielden. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 22, 2014 at West Oaks Funeral Home. Darrell passed away on Monday, May 19, 2014 at Dubious Hospital of Paris. He was born on August 3, 1938 in Sulphur Bluff, the son of J.P. and Sybil (Hicks) Deaton. He married Carol Dillard on August 12, 1957 in Hugo, OK. She survives. He was a member of Sulphur Bluff Baptist Church and served as a Deacon and as Treasurer. In addition to his wife, he is also survived by son, Brad Deaton of Sulphur Springs, grandchildren, Carmen Dufrene and husband Bill of Sulphur Bluff, Courtney Mitchell of Austin, Ashley Deaton of Sulphur Springs, Earnie Jackson, great-grandchildren, Brady and Benton Dufrene, Rhett Jackson, son-in-law, W.O. Mitchell, Jr., brother, Benny Deaton, sister-in-law, Virginia Dillard of Dallas, sisters, June Bassham and husband James K., Sharon Cox and husband LeRoy, Jackie Elmore and husband Ray, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, infant son, Tommy Deaton, daughter, Angela Mitchell, grandson, Clay Mitchell, and sister, Jane Taylor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Clay Mitchell Memorial Scholarship Fund at City National Bank, 201 Connally St., Sulphur Springs, TX 75482, the Multiple Sclerosis Society at American Cancer Society at https://donate.cancer.org. Arrangements are under the direction of West Oaks Funeral Home.
