THE LATE MATILDA BONNER OF OSSIAN
WELL KNOWN AND GREATLY RESPECTED
She Leaves Many who Sincerely Mourn Her Death
The death of Mrs. Mary Matilda Scott Bonner, a prominently known woman of that community, occurred Friday morning, March 17, 1911, at her home at 7:56 o'clock, and her spirit joined those of her kindred in the other world. Mrs. Bonner was the daughter of John Scott, one of the early settlers of that town. She was born on the farm adjoining her home 78 years ago last September. She married Samuel Clarence Bonner, who died nearly twenty one years ago, two children being born to them, a son Fred C. Bonner and a daughter Mrs. E. Homer Blank of that place, who survives, and Mrs. Frank Bluestone of Canaseraga who she tenderly cared for for over twelve years and loved as her own, and her neice Miss Bertha Scott who she has kindly cared for eight years; one sister Mrs. Ellen Karcher of Syracuse who was unable to come also survives.
Nearly five weeks ago she was taken ill with stomach trouble and gradually failed, heart difficulty being the cause of her death. She had been in good health for one of her years until then. Her death was a severe shock to her family. Mrs. Bonner lived a very sweet beautiful life and her happiness of her loved ones and those about her always gave her pleasure. She had been a member of the Episcopal church of Canaseraga many years and had a remarkably cheerful disposition and her many friends always found pleasure in her society. She was well read and thoroughly posted on the events of the world and took lively interest in all that transpired. Mrs. Bonner was a great lover of flowers and always had a good many and took pleasure in caring for them.
The funeral was held at her late home Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock and was largely attended, Rev. A. Sidney Dealy of Canaseraga officiating. The burial took place at the cemetery near the church.
Those in attendance from out of town were as follows: From Canaseraga--Mrs. Florence Shay, Miss Celia Bonner, Mr. Mansfield Moore, Miss Ruth Scott, Miss Agnes Scott, Mrs. Jeanett Shear, Miss Isabel Scott, Ex-Sheriff Lloyd Miller, Mr. and Mrs. John Baron, Mr. and Mrs. O.E. Shay, Mr. and Mrs. James Gardner. From Dansville--Andrew McCurdy, Fred and Scott McCurdy, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Denton, Mr. and Mrs. Peter Aex. From Scottsburg--Mr. and Mrs. Van Scott and daughter, Mr. Wm. Scott of Prattsburg and Mr. John Edwards of Avoca.
