Graveside services for Dorothy Emogene "Gene" Brinlee, 79, of Ravenna, will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, May 21, 2014 at Mulberry Cemetery under the direction of Wise Funeral Home. Wayne Johnson will officiate. Gene passed away Monday, May 19, 2014 at Seven Oaks Nursing and Rehab in Bonham.

Gene was born April 27, 1935 in Dallas, Texas, the daughter of William Cothes "WC" Carpenter and Ruby Evelyn Barnes Carpenter. She graduated from high school in Plano, Texas and attended Texas Christian University. Gene married Alvie Douglas "Doug" Brinlee in June of 1955, and he preceded her in death Apr. 25, 2010. She raised quarter horses and was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association for 50 years. A very talented western artist, Gene received numerous awards including the Oklahoma Heritage Award for Western Art. She was a member of various art organizations including the Creative Arts Center in Bonham, where a number of her paintings are displayed. Gene was also a longtime member of First Christian Church in Bonham. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Eddie Pannell.

Gene is survived by two sons, six grandchildren, one great granddaughter and a niece.

Pallbearers will be Brian Brinlee, Bert Brinlee, Chase Brinlee, and Ed Carter.

The family will receive friends at Wise Funeral Home from 12noon until 1:30PM Wednesday, prior to service.
