Mr. Kenneth Monroe Boone, 86 of Mt. Airy died on Sunday May 18, 2014 at his home. He was the loving husband of Dorothy Mae Boone for 48 years.
Born on December 17, 1927 in Frederick County he was the son of the late Sterling Monroe and Mary Frances Stitely Boone.
He was a 1944 Graduate of Mt. Airy High School. He was in the United States Maritime service from 1945 until late 1947. He had different job opportunities before entering the Army. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 to 1953. From 1953 to 1959 he worked for Damascus Electric Co. in Damascus. In 1959 he started working for the First National Bank in Mt. Airy and later changed to Farmers & Mechanics National Bank. After 32 years of working for the bank he retired and started working part time for FSK Lincoln Mercury in Frederick where he retired on January 31st 2014.
His favorite past time was learning to play golf and becoming somewhat good at it. He loved being on the golf course with his favorite buddies. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church in Mt. Airy, the American Legion Post 191 and Past Member of Mt. Airy Lions Club.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children Robin Dale and husband Michael Albert Kark of Martinsburg, WV, Terri Jo and husband Richard Allen Harshman of New Windsor, MD and Randy Monroe Boone and wife Jennifer Ann of Boca Raton, FL. Grandchildren Brian Lee Shipley and wife Aubrey Ann of Inwood, WV., Angie Lynn Shipley of Martinsburg, WV., Katie Elizabeth Harshman of Orlando, FL and Mary Kathryn Harshman of New Windsor, MD. Great grandchildren Kaylie Elizabeth Shipley of Martinsburg WV., Cameron Louis and Caroline Elaine Shipley of Inwood, WV. Step Grandchildren Brittany Ann Rabideau, Sean Patrick Rabideau and Brendan James Rabideau all of Boca Raton, FL. One sister Nancy B. Hammond of Mt. Airy MD. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother Richard L. Boone and a sister Rebecca B. Woodfield.
Visitation will be held from 4-7pm on Wednesday May 21, 2014 at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 East Ridgeville Blvd, Mt. Airy where services will be held 11:00am on Thursday May 22, 2014. Pastor Bud Lusk will officiate. Interment will follow In Pine Grove Cemetery, Mt. Airy.
