Louise E. (McSweeney) Scibelli, 77, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 15, 2014 in Los Angeles, California. She was born on August 23, 1936, in Burlington, Vermont, the eighth child of Dr. E. Douglas McSweeney and Ruth (Casey) McSweeney. She attended Mount Saint Mary's Academy in Burlington, Vermont. She also attended the University of Vermont and graduated from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield Massachusetts in 1960 with an RN degree. Mrs. Scibelli married Joseph A. Scibelli, of Springfield on June 13, 1961. For many years Mr. and Mrs. Scibelli resided in Long Beach, California where Mr. Scibelli was a member of the Los Angeles Rams football team. In 1979, Mr and Mrs Scibelli relocated to Suffield, CT. Long time members of the Suffield Country Club, Mrs. Scibelli was the Women's Club Golf Champion in 1990, 1992, 1994 and 1995. Mrs. Scibelli relocated to Los Angeles in 2010 to live with her son Chris and his family. Mrs. Scibelli is predeceased by her husband, Joseph A. Scibelli, parents, in-laws Anthony C. Scibelli and Teresa Colonna Scibelli and siblings, E. Douglas McSweeney, MD, William J. McSweeney, MD, the Reverend Monsignor John R. McSweeney, P.A. and her sister, Mrs. Margaret Barry. Survivors include her son, A. Chris Scibelli (Anne Marie) of Los Angeles, California and her grandchildren, Joseph A. and Katherine F. Scibelli. Mrs. Scibelli's surviving McSweeney sisters include Mrs. Marie McKenna, Mrs. Ruth Ann Pichler, Mrs. Katherine Morrissey (John), Mrs. Elizabeth Gretkowski (Henry), and Mrs. Martha Economou (Dean). Mrs. Scibelli is also survived by her brother and sister-in-laws, Anthony J. Scibelli (Carolyn) and Maria Scibelli DeAngelis (Pasquale), all of Wilbraham, Massachusetts; sisters-in-law Anne Fletcher, MD and Marilyn McSweeney and brother-in-law Edward Barry as well as 36 nieces and nephews and seven godchildren. Masses of Christian burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 21 at 6:30pm at St. Paul the Apostle Parish, 10750 Ohio Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90024. Simultaneously there will be a private mass for local family at the Diocese of Vermont Chancery Office for Mrs. Scibelli celebrated by Rev. Monsignor John McDermott. An east coast funeral mass, interment and reception will be held in her honor in Springfield, MA on Saturday, May 24th. Mass will be at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mount Carmel, 123 William Street, Springfield, MA (413) 734-5433 with the interment with her beloved husband following at St. Michael's Cemetery 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA.
