Mary Nash York was born in Newbury on 2 Dec 1914, the daughter of Harold W. & Margaret Moody (Ilsley) Pritchard.
She attended school in Newbury. At the age of 12, she was admitted to a TB hospital in Lakeville, MA. for the treatment of Tuberculosis of the hip. Having lived on a dairy farm, it was determined that drinking raw milk was the source of her illness. She was at the hospital for 4 years. Upon her return home, she went to Newburyport High School, and graduated with the class of 1934.
