Andre Marcel Guillou
April 15, 1927 – March 24, 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father and husband, Andre Guillou, on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 in Kamloops surrounded by his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Paulette, his daughters, Jacqueline Hungerford, Michelle Gill and husband Norm and Donna Bergen and husband Cliff. He also leaves his grandchildren, Matthew and Sara Hungerford, Robert Gill and Mark, Nolan and Megan Bergen, and his sisters Suzanne and Alphonsine of France.
Andre was born in St. Yvi, France on April 15, 1927 and immigrated to Canada in November of 1950. He arrived in Halifax and made his way across Canada, settling in Kamloops, B.C. Andre married Paulette in 1961 and together they had three children. Andre worked for various electrical contractors and was a long-standing member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, and in 2008, he was recognized as a 55-year member. His work took him to various projects in the mining industry, as well as the Revelstoke Dam, Weyerhauser Pulp Mill and the City of Kamloops.
Andre and Paulette retired to Shuswap Lake in 1990 and spent many wonderful years there. Dad enjoyed gardening, fishing, wine making and was happy to lend a helping hand whenever asked. Andre also ran the Saratoga Community Water System for many years. Together mom and dad enjoyed traveling abroad, spending time with friends and dad loved nothing more than having his whole family together under his roof. He will be greatly missed.
Special thanks to Father Derrick, Dr. Newmarch, the entire staff at the Morjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice in Kamloops, as well as the many friends who provided heartfelt support to our family during this difficult time.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in Sacred Heart Cathedral, 255 Nicola St., on Saturday, March 28, 2009 at 12:30 p.m
If friends desire, donations to either the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 201-635 Victoria St., Kamlooops, B.C. V2C 2B8 or the RIH Foundation, 311 Columbia St., Kamloops, B.C. V2C 2T1 in memory of Andre Guillou would be appreciated.
