Thos. Cooney Passes Away at Daughter's Home Last Thursday

Thomas J. Cooney died at the home, of his daughter, Mrs. Daniel J. O'Brian Thursday morning at 10:3O o'clock, after an illness of several days due to influenza and complications. The deceased, the son of Margaret Kenny Cooney and John Cooney was, born in County Waterford, Ireland, May 16, 1852, being at the time of his death close to 88 years of age.

At the age of seven years, he came with his parents, to America, settling with other pioneers on the vast western prairie to make their homes and help by hardship and good works, to make the promised land the country of freedom it is today.

On December 27, 1879, he was united in marriage to Miss Maria F. Driscoll in St. John's church, Bradford. To the union were born nine children, two sons passing away some years ago.

Mr. Cooney was a highly respected farmer of this community. Twelve years ago he moved with his family to Peoria. There he, with his wife, had the, pleasure of celebrating their golden wedding anniversary ten years ago. Several years later after Mrs. Cooney's death, he returned to Bradford and since then has made his home with his daughters, Mrs. Daniel O'Brien and Mrs. Raymond Blaisdell, receiving loving and tender care from all his children until death called him to his heavenly home.

Mr. Cooney was of a jovial nature and always had a cheerful greeting for all his friends.

A respected citizen, a kind neighbor, a loving father, he went to his Maker fortified by all the sacraments of the Catholic church of which,throughout the eighty-seven years of his life, he was ever a faithful member.

Surviving are six daughters. Miss Blanche Cooney of Madison, Wis., Mrs. Ralph Meyers of Peoria; Mrs. Walter Zerfas of Watertown. S. D.; Mrs. Frank McNulty of Greybull, Wyoming; Mrs. Daniel J. O'Brien and Mrs. Raymond Blaisdell of Bradford; son, James Cooney of Peoria; many grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held in St. John's Catholic church, Saturday morning at 6:30 o'clock. Rev. Fr. Fitzgerald saying Requiem High Mass. Interment was In St. John's cemetery south of Bradford.
