Johan August Olsson was born on August 8, 1859 in Uppsala Sweden. According to his death certificate, Johan was the son of Per Johan Olsson and Lovisa Erickson-Olsson.

Johan married Katrina Kristina Petterson Printz in circa 1883 in Uppsala Sweden. Johan and Katrina were the parents of seven children all born in Sweden. Sadly five of the seven children died between the ages of 2 and 3 years old.

Children:

1. Karl Johan August Manfred Olsson born in 1884 in Bälinge, Uppsala, Sweden and died January 31 1920 in Salt Lake City Utah.

2. Bernhardina Lovisa Olsson, born on April 22, 1887 in Jumkil Uppsala Sweden.

3. Anna Viktoria Olsson born in Jumkil Uppsala Sweden on December 19, 1889 and died February 17, 1892 in Jumkil Uppsala Sweden on.

4. Anna Sophia Olsson born in Jumkil Uppsala Sweden on October 22 1892 and died June 27 1895 in Jumkil Uppsala Sweden on.

5. Henrik August Olsson born in Jumkil Uppsala Sweden on December 18, 1894 and died May 7, 1896 in Jumkil Uppsala Sweden on.

6. Ernest Gustaf Olsson born in Jumkil Uppsala Sweden on February 27 1897 and died in September of 1980 in Salt Lake City Utah.

7. Gunnar Engen Olsson born in Jumkil Uppsala Sweden on May 12, 1900 and died on August 3, 1903 in Jumkil Uppsala Sweden.

Johan, Katrina and their son Ernest immigrated to America on the passenger ship SS Arabic. They arrived in Boston Massachusetts on 17 June 1905. Their destination was Murray Utah to join their son Karl Johan who had immigrated two years earlier in the year 1903.

Johan and Katrina's daughter Bernhardina Lovisa who was married by then, stayed behind in Sweden with her husband and children.

Arriving in America both Johan and Katrina "Americanized" their names from Johan to John and Katrina Kristin to Christine Katheryn.

Sadly, it was only three months after John came to America that he passed away. According to John's death certificate, he died from Typhoid Fever which he may have contracted on the ship while immigrating to America. John passed away on September 20, 1905.
