Halley, Odd Fellow at Hudson 50 Years, Dies at Age of 71

Hudson, Ia.--Paul N. Halley, 71, carpentry contractor and 50-year member of Hudson Odd Fellow Lodge 526, died in Presbyterian hospital, Waterloo, at 4 p. m. Friday, six days after undergoing a major operation. He had been ill two months.

A lifelong resident of this community, he was born Aug. 17, 1869, in Lincoln township, where his parents, John S. and Eveline Halley, had settled in 1868. After his parents retired to Waterloo from their 320-acre farm. he came to Hudson as a well driller.

The Hudson Lodge awarded him a 50-year jewel last April 10. He also was a member of the Hudson volunteer fire department.

Unmarried, he is survived by two brothers. Philip of Eagle Bend, Minn., and George, last heard of in Alabama. The parents, three sisters and two other brothers are dead.

Funeral services will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Parrott & Wood Chapel at Waterloo, in charge of Hudson Lodge No. 526, I. O. O. F.
Casket bearers will be W. G. Strayer, F. M. Bowen, C. A. Bixby, Fred Waltman, Art Hollis and Jack Madsen. Burial will be in Elmwood cemetery at Waterloo.
