Robert was born at 5h, 20m pm at 7 Bayton Terrace, Granton Road, district of North Leith, county of Edinburgh. Father Robert Donald Shewan, a gardener (nursery). The marriage of his parents, Robert & Jane Shewan ms Sievewright is recorded as 1893, January 20, South Leith. Registered on April 25.
Robert A. Shewan (regimental number 307052) and his brother Alfred were both Gunners with the Lowland (City of EdinburghY Hvy. Bty., Royal Garrison Artillery during WWI, and received the Territorial Forces War Medal. Robert also received the Vitcory Medal. (The brothers both emigrated to Montreal, Quebec Canada. )
Robert Alexander Shewan, son of age of Robert Donald Shewan and Jane Aiken, and Mary Agnes Murphy, daughter of Patrick Murphy and Mary Fleming, were wed in Saint Patrick's Church, Montreal on 18 Oct 1924 in the presence of James [Daniel] Murphy and Mary Agnes.
Robert's wife went to Scotland in 1927 and again in 1934.
On 25 Nov 1934, Mary Agnes SHEWAN, wife, age 40, born in Edinburgh, previously in Canada from November 1923 to 4 May 1934 at 660, First Avenue, Verdun, arrived in Montreal from Glasgow aboard the vessel Letitia with her son Robert Patrick SHEWAN, age 7, born in Verdun Quebec and daughter Elizabeth Frances SHEWAN, 2 weeks old, born in Edinburgh Scotland. Mary was destined to meet her husband, Robert SHEWAN of 660 First Avenue, Verdun.
Robert died in 1952. The family were 556 6th av (Verdun) at the time. His son, Robert Patrick Shewan, settled in New Brunswick; his wife Mary (known as 'Dolly') emigrated to the USA.
