From the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Wednesday, February 28, 1990, Sec. 1, p. 17:

Fort Worth - Herbert Hutchinson Thaxton, a retired certified public accountant, died Monday at his home. He was 83.

Mr. Thaxton was the father of Fort Worth civic leader Anne Thaxton Bass.

Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Andrew's Episcopal Church. There will be a private burial. Greenwood Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Thaxton, a native of Waco, was associated with the formation of the Federal Intermediate Credit Bank in Houston in the 1930s and served as chief accountant.

Mr. Thaxton attended South Texas School of Law in Houston. When he became a certificate public accountant in 1940, his registration number was 806. Today, there are about 60,000 registered certified public accountants in Texas.

During World War II, Mr. Thaxton was an Army captain and was assigned to the Quartermaster General's office in Washington.

After the war he entered private practice in Fort Worth in 1946 and retired in 1986.

Mr. Thaxton was a life member of First Texas COuncil of Camp Fire and was candy sales chairman for many years. He was a member of St. Andrew's Episcopal Church.

The family suggests memorials be made to Cook-Fort Worth Children's Medical Center, the Child Study Center or the All Church Home.

Survivors: Wife for 47 years, Annie Jo Thaxton of Fort Worth; daughter, Anne Thaxton Bass of Fort Worth; three sisters, Betty Murphy of Dallas, Chrissie Kizer of Waco and Nell Goble of Levelland; and four grandchildren.
