Lucia Beverley Hackley was the daughter of Jefferson's Ambassador to Spain, Richard Shippey Hackley and his second wife, Harriet Randolph. She was born in Cadiz, Andalusia, Spain. She moved with the rest of her family to Florida (probably to Tallahassee) in 1826 after her father purchased the infamous "Hackley Tract" from the (Spanish) Duke of Alagon on 29 May 1819. Lucia married Dr. Lewis Byrd Willis in Florida She died soon after the birth of her only child, Lewis Byrd Willis, Jr.
