OZONA Helen Owensby (a.k.a. Helen Allene Corle), 88, was born to Mr. and Mrs. H.W. Corle in Bedford County, Pa. She passed away peacefully at her home in Ozona, Texas, on Tuesday, March 1, 2011. Graveside memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 13, 2011, in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Arrangements by Preddy Funeral Home. She was married to Dr. Robert M. Owensby, M.D. on April 7, 1947. To this union three children were born: Michael Owensby, Mark Owensby and Sue Owensby. She is survived by her son, Mark (a pharmacist in San Diego, Calif.); and her daughter, Sue (a professor of nursing in Henderson, Nev.) Helen was a veteran of World War II in the Army Nurse Corps. She spent a year in Japan with the occupation forces having received a rank of first lieutenant. She worked as a nurse at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, Pa. It was there she met her husband, Robert. Helen and Robert Owensby moved from California to Ozona, Texas, in December 1974, where her husband opened his medical office on Feb. 1, 1975. She worked in his office until he retired in 1997. Helen was a member of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution), League of Women Voters and a member of the Ozona Methodist Church where she served on the hospitality committee for many years. Since her husband's death she has been volunteering at Helping Hands, the Crockett County Museum and the Crockett County Senior Center. She loved reading history and poetry, music and cooking and baking for family and friends. She had many wonderful friends in Ozona.
