LAFAYETTE - Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, June 16, 2017 in the Delhomme Chapel of the Flowers for Mr. L.J. "Jack" Hamburg, 89. Jack passed away peacefully on June 12, 2017 at his Lafayette home surrounded by his family.

Little Jack Hamburg was born on September 21, 1927 in a lumber camp in central Mississippi. He grew up in Enterprise, Mississippi where he developed a lifelong love for fishing and hunting. He loved both freshwater and saltwater fishing in the Atchafalaya Basin and all along coastal Louisiana. He was also an avid hunter of duck, deer, squirrel, and doves. When he wasn't hunting or fishing he could be found tending to his garden, painting, wood-crafting and engaging in mechanical tinkering of all sorts.
Jack served in the US Merchant Marine during wartime and later in the US Army Air Corps. He graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a degree in Geology. He worked many years as a seismic crew chief for oil & gas exploration, geologist, and eventually retired from Tenneco as a District Geophysicist. He was honored by having the Jack Field, a large oil and gas development in the Gulf of Mexico, named after him. Jack was a resident of Lafayette, Louisiana since 1969.
Jack is survived by his sons, Tommy (Renee'), Bruce (Patti), Carey, and Scott Hamburg (Erin). He is also survived by his 11 grandchildren, Crystal, Beverly, Kevin, Amanda, Peter, Jeffery, Zack, Joshua, Jack, Vivian, and Beckett; and 2 great-grandchildren, Chloe and Josie, and one more on the way.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Iris; daughters, Mitzi and Julie; brother, Thomas Vernon Hamburg; sister, Verta Mae Wells; and parents, Tom and Caroline Hamburg.
The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home - Bertrand on Friday, June 16, 2017 from 10:00AM until 1:45PM.
