Emma was the third daughter and seventh child of Ernest and Anna (Wilhelm) Culley. She grew up on the family farm and on Oct 12 1911, married John Wiley Ruckman, MD at Capitana, Marshall County, WV. She spent the rest of her brief life as a housewife. On Oct 8 1919, she died of eclampsia when giving birth to their first child, Emma Dorothy. The baby died two days later, of complications arising from her mother's condition.
