William Robert (Bob) Brown, 66, of Glade Hill (formerly of Roanoke), passed away Friday, May 9, 2014, at his home after a brief but courageous fight with leukemia. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Garland and Melva Brown; a brother, Jimmy H. Brown; and his mother-and- father-in-law, Sibley and Dothorine Brooks.
Left to cherish his memory is his devoted wife, and love of his life for 44 years, Dianne Brooks Brown; daughter, Kim Altice and husband, Herbie; son, Michael Brown and wife, Jennifer Scott Brown.
Providing Bob with much joy and many proud moments are his grandchildren: Kayle Altice (and special friend, Scott Stanley) and Hunter Altice; Michael Brown and Jacob Brown. Other survivors include a special niece, Missy Easter and her family of Richmond, sisters, brothers and extended family members.
Bob was a long-time employee of Lawrence Transportation Systems and traveled across the country, logging approximately 8 million accident-free miles. Because of his generous spirit, many friends, co-workers, and others were recipients of his (sometimes anonymous) assistance during their times of need.
Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 12, 2014, at Oakey's North Chapel, with the Rev. Glen C. Stinnett officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial gifts to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. The family also gratefully acknowledges the concern and care by the Hospice staff, especially Kitty, Karen and Joe. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6-8 P.M. at Oakey's North Chapel, www.oakeys.com.
