Robert Taylor Bartley married Ruth Jane Adams 12 August 1936 District of Columbia. Robert Taylor Bartley son of Samuel E. Bartley and Medibel RAYBURN. He attended public school in Dallas and graduated from Highland Park school in 1927. He later attended Southern Methodist University. At the age of 22, Bartley moved to Washington, D.C.
where he began serving as special council to then later secretary of, the research and investigative staff of the US House committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce.
He was later the senior security analyst for the SEC 1937-1939. From 1939 to 1943, he was VP of the Yankee Network in Boston. In 1943 he returned to Washington, D.C. as director of wartime activities
at the National Association of Broadcasters.
From 1948-1952 he was administrative assistant to his uncle the Hon. Sam Rayburn. In 1952 President Truman appointed him to the Federal Communication Commission. Serving from 1952-1972 making him the longest serving member of the FCC. In 1965 he received the Marconi Memorial Gold Medal of Achievement.
"Mr." Sam Rayburn was also RT Bartley's best man at his wedding.
