Allen grew up in Port Neches, Texas and was the star quarterback at Port Neches High School. He served in the United States Army in World War II in Europe. He graduated from Texas A&M University and was an oil exploration geologist in his professional career, first with Sun Oil Company and later as an independent geologist in Lafayette, Louisiana.
He was president of the Lafayette Geological Society, volunteer for the Southwest Rehabilitation Center, assistant scoutmaster, and cheerleader for countless events in the lives of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was survived by his wife of 67 years, Patsy Hopkins Borland; two sons, two daughters, one sister, and thirteen grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen Milton Borland, Sr. and Clara Ursula Keith Borland Newman; his mother-in-law, Faye Hopkins; his brothers-in-law, Clyde Hopkins and Loyd Hopkins; and his son-in-law, Michael Doughty.
