1923 ~ 2012
Our family lost a great man, wonderful father and best friend to natural causes on September 5, 2012.
Charles Thomas Bintz "Tom" was born December 9, 1923 in Salt Lake City to Charles Carroll and Denise Karrick Bintz. His childhood home is the current location of the Town Club on South Temple. He graduated from East High School and at age 17 entered Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. He was a member of the Alpha Kappa Epsilon Fraternity and met his future wife Dorothy Vernam Cornish "Dottie" while waiting in a line on campus. They were married in 1945. After his discharge from the US Navy and his graduation in 1947, Tom and Dottie returned to Salt Lake.
He managed the W. H. Bintz Co. (Bintz Restaurant Supply) for over 20 years before embarking on a career change. Tom joined Merrill Lynch Pierce Fenner and Smith in 1967 and eventually retired as Vice President of the Salt Lake office. He worked extremely hard to provide his family with the best they could possibly have and they share the bonds and memories of a great childhood.
He loved the classics, famous quotes, art and music and used to say, "the greatest failure of mankind is letting greed overcome good judgment." His intelligence and dry, but cunning, sense of humor kept his family and friends on their toes.
Tom was a member of the Alta Club, and past member of The Salt Lake Country Club, Cottonwood Club, Salt Lake Swimming and Tennis Club and the Bloomington Country Club in St George.
He believed we should share our wealth and our time and was a generous contributor to many charities and associations as well as the homeless. He served on the Westminster College School of Business Advisory Council, Friendship Manor Board of Directors and many others through out his lifetime.
A member of the First Congregational Church, he looked forward to the after service coffee and conversation with Minister Michael Chittum.
He has now joined his wife of 65 years who died in 2009. He is survived by his four children, Dorothy Richardson "DeeDee" (Robert/Pokey), Martha Neerings, Charles C. Bintz "Charlie" (Diane), and Brian K. Bintz (Sheri), grandchildren John Bordley, Corey Neerings (Stephanie), Christopher Bintz, DeeDee and Brian's stepchildren, Kresta Falk, Tyler Richardson, Joshua Anderson, Nichole Anderson (deceased), Ryan Haws, his great grandchildren; and sisters, Denise Riser and Barbara "Bobbie" (Sherman) Gray
The family would like to thank the staff at Sunrise at Holladay and Inspiration Hospice for their excellent care and kindness during his last days.
Friends may visit with the family at Neil O'Donnell and Sons Mortuary, 372 East 100 South from 6-8 on Tuesday September 11, 2012. A private family graveside service will be held the following morning.
In lieu of flowers, please remember those less fortunate and make a donation in his name to your favorite charity .
