Edward Monroe Watson, Jr. was the only son of Edward Monroe Watson and Grace Johnston Beauchamp. He arrived on September 26, 1911 in the log house in which his parents lived a few miles from Fairfield. After later inheriting this property, Edward donated the log structure [The Potter-Watson Cabin} to the Freestone County Museum where it can be seen today. Like his father and grandfather, Edward was a cattleman. Edward Watson and Mildred Chavers were married on June 21, 1934 and were parents of one daughter, Jo Olive. After spending years working on the WX Ranch owned by his father and his Uncle Charlie, Edward's father deeded him land on Tehuacana Creek which Edward he named the "Hookin' Bull." He ran cattle on this land and on that portion of his birthplace which he received upon his father's death. His brand was the "Cross J" which had been used by his grandfather, Taz Watson. For many years, Edward worked in the Fairfield Post Office. A big man, Edward stood about six feet three inches tall and weighed almost three hundred pounds; this fact prompted him to refer to himself as "the biggest cowman in Freestone County." Devoted to his family and friends, Edward enjoyed teasing. His grandson, Justin Turner, was the joy of his later years. Edward had a heart attack and died at Stewards Mill on February 28, 1974 and was buried in Stewards Mill Cemetery.
