ICC Chief Robert Brunson “Boss” Fulmer
ANNANDALE, Va. – ICC Chief, Robert Brunson “Boss” Fulmer, U.S. Navy (Ret.), passed away Friday, February 12, 2016.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016, at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with the Reverend Vollie Gibbs officiating. Viewing and Visitation prior to service at 10 a.m. Interment with full military honors will follow in the church cemetery.
Robert was born in Aiken, a son of the late Wardlaw and Lula Johnson Fulmer, on July 29, 1922. He had been a resident of Fairfax County, VA, since 1960, and was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Springfield, VA. He retired from the U.S. Navy with the rank of ICC Chief. He was a proud “swim-away” of the USS WASP that sank September 15, 1941, in Guadalcanal. He continued his career as an electrical engineer and a sewing center owner before he retired in 1990.
Robert married Eleanor Marian Fulmer on May 22, 1942. They were married 49 years. Robert and Marian had two daughters. On April 3, 1992, he married longtime friend, Vernice Vaughn Fulmer. They were married for 22 years. Together they combined an amazing family full of love and faith.
Robert is survived by his wife of 22+ years, Vernice Vaughn Fulmer; two daughters, Cherie Dianne Till and husband Dan of Ashburn, VA, and Rosemary Fulmer Purple of Alexandria, VA; stepdaughter, Sharon Beene and husband Dwight of Fairfax, VA; grandchildren, Cherie Deborah Smith and husband David, Robert Weikle and wife Julie, Jennifer Purple Longauer and husband Brian, William C. Purple IV and wife Michelle, Darrell Weikle and wife Renee, and Sarah Dianne Waterfield and husband Richard, Kirk Beene and wife Sarah, Heather Whitis and husband Sean, and Rebekah Knapp and husband Derek; and the loves of his life, 25 great-grandchildren and four great-great-granddaughters; two sisters, Juanita (George) Verenes, Lona (Cortez) Proctor; numerous loving nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, 164 Mt. Pleasant Road, Ridge Spring, SC 29129.
