William was born in Missouri, probably
in Ray County. He married Charlotta Jane
Burton on December 10, 1882 in Carroll
County Arkansas. To this union were
born Seven children: Mary, Matilda, Dora,
Mark, William, Robert and Lillian. At one
time William was a U.S.Marshal in
Arkansas working out of Arkansas and
into Indian Territory. He later moved to
Oklahoma after statehood. Later on he
became a preacher at the same time as
he was a Marshal. He did not carry a gun,
he talked the badmen into surrendering to
him. After he retired from law enforcement
he became the Pastor of the Freewill Baptist
Church in Sapulpa,Oklahoma.
He stayed there until ill health forced him
to retire. After two years he died in 1942.
William was my Great Grandfather.
