Marion V. Smith, age 86 passed away peacefully at the Evergreen North Cascades Health and Rehabilitation Center on October 7, 2008. She was born on June 30, 1922 in Everett, WA to Bert and Lorene Rawls.

Marion later lived in Bothell, WA with her family, moving to Bellingham at the age of twelve. She attended Bellingham schools, graduating from Bellingham High School in 1940. She went on to attend Bellingham Business College where she specialized in secretarial skills. Marion was a lifetime member of Rainbow Girls and was captain of the Eagles Drill Team.

She married Ira Heaton and the couple had a daughter, Martha Lee. Marion lived mostly in the Seattle area, where she held several Executive Secretarial positions, including ones at the Bon Marche and King Broadcasting. She retired after working for the LongAcres Race Course. Marion held a life membership to EWI (Executive Women International) and served as second president of the Seattle chapter in 1955 and as president in 1966. She was an avid golfer, and loved the Seattle Mariners baseball team.

Marion and her late husband enjoyed traveling to their winter home in Palm Desert, CA, returning to their summer home on Bainbridge Island. Marion was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Albert Rawls; and husbands, Ira Heaton, Warren Peck, and George Smith.

She is survived by her brother, Thomas Rawls (Maxine); daughter, Martha Lee Lyman (Steve) of Renton; three grandchildren, Paul Lyman (fiancée, Jennifer), Thomas Lyman (Lana), and Rebecca Ensey (Michael) of Conroy, TX; four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on October 21, 2008 at 3:00 PM in the Moles-Greenacres Funeral Home Chapel, followed by a reception for family and friends.
