HENRY DODD, NATIVE OF CRYSTAL IS DEAD
J. W. Dodd and Mrs. James Muirhead of Traer left Friday night by rail for Victoria, Texas to attend the funeral of their brother, Henry Dodd, 69, who died at home there on Friday. Death was due to heart disease. He suffered a heart attack about a year ago. Funeral services were held there at 4 p.m. Sunday. Henry Dodd, son of Edward and Janet Dodd, was born December 22, 1873, on the old Dodd homestead in Crystal township. He attended school at Gladbrook and Iowa State college at Ames, and in 1897 formed a partnership with John W. Brow in a lumber business at Gladbrook which they operated for about fifteen years.
Mr. Dodd married Nona Williams, of Orient, Iowa, December 21, 1909 and soon after they moved to Houston, Texas. After about two years there they located at Victoria, Texas, their home since. Mr. Dodd was in the cattle business many years, and was interested in the cotton industry, in recent years he had been managing a large ranch.
Mr. Dodd is survived by his wife and an adopted daughter, Mary Margaret. Besides the brother and sister in Traer, he leaves one brother, Wright, of St. Joseph, Missouri. A brother, Will, died in Tulsa, Oklahoma about five years ago; a sister Mrs. Mary Miller died in Arkansas in 1910, and a brother Edward died at the age of two years. J. W Dodd returned from Texas yesterday. Mrs. Muirhead planned to remain a couple weeks. John W. Brown of Cedar Falls, Henry's former partner in the lumber business in Gladbrook accompanied them to Texas for the funeral.
