He is a son of Fred Marshall Turpin (1897-1973) and Hallie Mae (Weatherford) Turpin (1900-1983).

He married Frances Lucille Smock (1923-2005) on 15 Nov 1942 in Gulfport, Mississippi.

They had three children
1. Ralph Dale Turpin (1946- )
2. Ronald Eugene Turpin (1947- )
3. Peggy Elaine Turpin (1950- )

He is also survived by a sister, Charmain Lynne (Turpin) Webb (1923- ) of Bountiful, Utah and a brother, Fredrick Gene Turpin (1934- ) of Farmer City, Illinois. A sister, Juanita Joyce Turpin (1918-1919) preceded him in death.

He was a Branch President of Farmer City Branch of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He worked as a civilian instructor at Chanute Air Force Base.
