MANSFIELD: On August 17, 2022 Leona (Forquer) Kaufman went home to be with her Lord and her heavenly family members. She was 101.

She was born June 21, 1921 to William and Irene (Baker) Forquer. She was born on a farm on Snake Road in Blooming Grove Township in Richland County, Ohio. The world was not only blessed with the birth of Leona – but her six siblings: sister Alice and brothers Walter, Bert, Earl, Victor, and Ernie Forquer.

Leona graduated from Shiloh High School. One night while out square dancing at Norris Barn Dance, she met the love of her life Donald Kaufman. They were married in 1940. After Don came home from serving in WWII, they raised two daughters, Donna and Sharon.

The Kaufman family, Don, Leona, Sharon, and Donna are Charter Members of, and instrumental in, the founding of Diamond Hills Baptist Church. They were active in watching the church grow spiritually, as well as raising the buildings.

Leona, being a woman of Christian faith, was very active in her church, holding various offices: Sunday school and Vacation Bible school teacher, a deaconess and assistant custodian, to mention a few. She was a regular at the monthly sewing and craft group until the Covid virus temporarily closed the church doors.

Her working career ended with her retirement from Therm-O-Disc.

In her younger years she was a quilter; she bowled in leagues, and played Euchre. She enjoyed crocheting, doing word search puzzles, and her TV shows. She was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, Ohio State Football, peanut butter M&Ms, and hot fudge sundaes.

Leona was always excited to watch, or hear about, her great granddaughter playing sports for Shelby High School, whether it was tennis or softball, as well as her great grandson Jared's drumming in his band, and his shooting and archery skills.

She was blessed by the Lord as a selfless loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

Donald died in 2003. She leaves behind to carry on her memory, her daughters Donna Kaufman of Youngstown, and Sharon Colegrove of Mansfield; granddaughter Kelly (Tim) Smith of Shelby; granddaughter-in-law Darla Colegrove of Berea, KY; great grandchildren Jared Colegrove of Berea, KY, Sadie Smith of Shelby, and Austin Smith of Jackson; two great great grandchildren Logan and Emersyn Colegrove. She also leaves a dear sister-in-law Imogene Cutter of Columbus and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Leona was preceded in death by her sister and brothers; son-in-law Terry Colegrove, great granddaughter Kaycee Smith, and grandson Bryan Colegrove.

Her family wishes to thank the many friends who were helpful in visiting and caring for Leona.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Snyder Funeral Homes. Family and friends may gather to pay respects at the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home on Monday, August 22, 2022 from 10 am to 12 noon. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12 pm, with Chaplain Kim Kollin officiating, and Leona's granddaughter Kelly Smith will speak. She will be laid to rest in Mansfield Memorial Park, next to her beloved husband Don.
