Her parents were Chauncey Carroll Bush and Ida Matilda Schroeder, married on June 27, 1865 in Shasta, California.

Eda Ellen was born in Shasta on March 22, 1869, the first surviving child of her parents. From the age of three, she was raised in Redding, a city which her prominent father pioneered and helped to build.

Being the only girl among three boys, she and her mother became very close. Her brother's names were C. Carroll (Chauncey Carroll Bush Jr.), George William, and Harry Edward.

~ excerpt of a newspaper article published in June of 1890:

"Mrs. Judge Bush and daughter, Eda, are members of the Presbyterian Church, and constant workers in the church and Sabbath-school, Mrs. Bush being now and for several years Assistant Superintendent. The family is noted for its many charities and assistance in times of distress, Miss Eda being a very active member of the Young Ladies' Aid Society, that is well known for its good works."

Eda never married, but remained in the home of her parents throughout the years, enjoying their social lifestyle. She was also active in charity circles.

She was 38 when her father died four days before Christmas in 1907.

When she was 51, her 72 year-old mother passed away at the home they shared. Ida's body was transported to Oakland for burial by her son, C. Carrol. A month later, the body of their father was removed and also sent to Oakland.

Eda Ellen left Redding to live with her brother Harry and his wife Ruth in Pasadena.

She was 89 when she passed away at her brother's second home in Angel's Camp on January 24, 1958. She was buried in the Evergreen Cemetery Chapel in Oakland beside her parents.
