Beverly Irene Gunderson was born April 25, 1927, to Aanon and Louise (Isakson) Gunderson in the sod house on their homestead near Lodgepole, S.D.

She attended Parker School and Hettinger High School, and graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn. in 1949. Upon graduation, she taught in the Hettinger school system for two years.

On June 2, 1951, she was united in marriage to Robert Tracy Fitch. To this union two children, Jane and Scott, were born. In 1965 she returned to teaching, sharing her love of writing and her passion for good literature. She retired in 1991. Many of her former students remember her as a favorite English teacher. She counted among her closest friends those with whom she taught.

Bev was an active member of Hettinger Lutheran Church, where she spent many years teaching Sunday school and enjoying her circle and study groups.

Bev's life centered around her family. She was the confidante who was always there; the one whom everyone could count on for loving, unjudgmental concern and advice. Her grandchildren were her special delight.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Bob; her daughter and son-in-law, Jane and Mike Meszaros, Billings, Mont., and her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Candee, Hettinger; her grandchildren, Joey and Molly Meszaros, Billings, and Alissa and Tanner Fitch, Hettinger. She is also survived by her sister, Lorraine Bundy, Moorhead, Minn.; 13 nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers, Merril and Elmer.

Beverly died July 16, 1998, in a Bismarck hospital at the age of 71. A service celebrating her life will be held at 2 p.m. MDT Monday at Hettinger Lutheran Church.

A scholarship fund will be established at the Hettinger School in memory of Bev. (Walby Funeral Chapel, Hettinger)
