Dorothy "Dottie" Helen Kislingbury, a longtime Peninsula resident, died April 17 surrounded by her family and caregivers. She was 91.

She was born in Boston, Mass., the daughter of Karsten and Lena Bauer. The family moved to Burlingame when she was 10 and to New Jersey when she was 15. She attended Burlingame High School and graduated in 1941 from Ridgewood (N.J.) High School and in 1943 from Southern Seminary women's college in Buena Vista, Va. She worked in merchandising at Lord & Taylor in New York City until the end of World War II when she moved back to California.

In 1945, she met Graham Kislingbury, a press agent for Universal Pictures who later opened a public relations and advertising office in San Francisco. They were married Aug. 24, 1946, in Burlingame, and had a wonderful 37 years of marriage. A homemaker, Dorothy raised three children, Linda, Graham and Sharon, all graduates of Mills High School. Dorothy loved people, especially children. She always enjoyed cooking and preferred making meals from scratch with fresh ingredients. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church of Burlingame.

She is survived by daughter and son-in-law Linda Kislingbury and Scott MacLeod of Novato; son and daughter-in-law Graham Kislingbury and Nancy Anderson of Albany, Ore.; brother John C. Bauer of Burlingame; granddaughters Morgan Cain of San Francisco and Lisa Anderson and Anna Anderson of Portland, Ore. Also surviving are nephews Erik Nielsen of San Mateo, Kurt Nielsen of Anaheim, Carol Nowlin of Burlingame, Debbie Royat of Chico, Doug Vollgraff of Seattle, Wash., John Bauer of Wyckoff, N.J., and Ralph Bauer of Lubbock, Texas; grandnieces and grandnephews Robert Nielsen, Jiyao Peng, Hailey Nowlin and Cody Nowlin; and cousins Karen Nuthmann and John Petraborg. Her husband Graham, daughter Sharon, grandson Drake Cain, sister Edna Nielsen and brother Ralph Bauer preceded her in death.

A celebration of Dorothy's life will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 22, at First Presbyterian Church, 1500 Easton Drive, Burlingame. Private burial of her ashes will be at Alta Mesa Memorial Park in Palo Alto. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Burlingame and the Salvation Army.
