Was born near Adelaide, son of Ernest and Ada Blanch BUNGEY
at Gladstone St. Fullerton SA.
He attended Glenelg Primary School and Adelaide High School and on leaving was employed as an Insurance Clerk
He trained with the RAAF at Point Cook in 1936 and embarked for England July 22 1937.
Squadron Leader Robert Wilton BUNGEY D F C [ 257414 ] served in the Royal Australian Air Force in Unit 4 Embarkation Depot, Adelaide, South Australia.
Transferred to the RAF on a Short Service Commission joining 226 Squadron at Harswell Nov 27 1937
His Squadron took part in The Battle of France as part of the AASF and in August he volunteered to join Fighter Command with 145 Squadron at Drem on Sept 19.
Nov 7th 1940 in Hurricane V6889 on Patrol, shot down by Me109 off Isle of Wight, baled out at 14.30. wounded with an injured knee.
He damaged a Ju88 on the 9th and shared an He111 on the 11th.
After a period in hospital he took Commandn of 452 Squadron [RAAF] Spitfires at Kirton in Lindsey
He destroyed a Bf109 on Dec 6.

He was posted away on staff and transferred back to RAAF in Jan 1943.
He married in England Sybil Ellen JOHNSON daughter of Arthur Sydney Johnson and Lucy Lott. She lived in Wallingford Berkshire.
A son Richard W Bungey was born in Glenelg but his mother died and he killed himself [ 1943 ] and tried to kill the new baby boy.
He was buried with full military honours [ RAAF ] in Plot G 207 St Judes Cemetery Brighton. South Australia.
